NICE guidelines recognise the risk of VTE associated with pregnancy and the post-partum period [26]. The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists also have well-regarded guidelines for the management of VTE risk in pregnancy [51]; and the Institute of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (Royal College of Physicians in Ireland) have developed local Clinical Guidelines (extract below) [28].
